An MT told me this and it has really made a difference in being able to find something you aren't sure of. Google the whole sentence instead of just the word. For instance today I had the doctor say, "The patient had compression dressings consisting of Ace wraps and web roll." I had never heard of web roll. When I Googled "web roll" I found nothing, but when I Googled "patient had compression dressings of web roll." I found tons of stuff and web roll was actually cast padding.

Hmm. I wonder if WEBRIL padding and web-roll padding are the same? I remember being corrected in my early days of MT'ng when I used web roll.

:laugh1: :laugh2: :laugh1: :laugh2: I knew someone would come on and say this. :laugh2: The doctor later spelled it as Webril, but according to some of the medical sites web roll padding can also be used as a compression dressing. That's one thing about MT - keeps you on your toes no matter HOW long you have been MTing. Thanks Retta. :goof:

Thank you so much Dixie!! I really do appreciate that. Sometimes I do put in a portion of the sentence, but have not put in the ENTIRE sentence. It is amazing sometimes how google works or doesn't work.

What bothers me the most is sometimes not even knowing how many words the doc is saying. Sometimes what sounds like one word is actually two or three all muffled together! So then researching can prove very hard.

Misty, it's enough to pull your hair out. LOL. I have been an MT for 9 years and still get stumped quite easily, but I have a second pair of ears to help me.....my sister is an MT sitting right beside me so we can help each other out which makes it SO nice.

Instead of Google you might try pogofrog.com which is a medical site and so weeds out a lot of laymen's terms for you

Oh thank you!!! BTW, I tried this tonight on my ophthalmology report that I had some blanks on. I found several more things I was stumped on! Thank you so much! I will try pogofrog.com too!

Here's another one I do ... if I can't hear a medication, but can hear the dosage, I google the dosage. It may bring up 10-15 different medications (or more!), but usually out of those one hits the "aha!" button, I can "hear" it when I "see" it. If it's an unusual dosage, it usually brings it right up. Also, if you can pick out anything like XR or CR in the medication, put that in your google search.

Dixie,
I am jealous that you have your sister right next to you! That's awesome!

I just tried the pogofrog.com site and the only thing I don't like is it doesn't show things as you type in the search box like google does. That has helped me a lot.
